Discardia season is nigh - time to fill a bag with books
Every three months comes Discardia, a floating holiday that celebrates letting go. This season's is just ended, though in the spirit of the holiday you can let go of precise date arithmetic too.
Dinah Sanders has a daily Discardian tip of the day. I'm looking at the one on filling up a bag with books you no longer need to own and eyeing the shelves.

Ed, there's an Ann Arbor-based company, Books By Chance (http://www.booksbychance.com ) that will come to your house, pick up the books, and sell them on consignment via Amazon Marketplace. They offer to donate and/or recycle the books they can't sell.
We gave them about 250 books to sell, and have made about $200 so far. Besides making money on something we'd have normally just given away, and not having to leave our house to do so, it's also been enjoyable to see just where the books are shipped. Who knew that someone in Altoona, PA also enjoys Central Asian history?

Don't forget O'Reilly's Safari online book service. I've been a subscriber for some time now, and have not felt the urge to buy those 2-3 technical titles a month like a used to. As the older titles go obsolete, I can reclaim the shelf space, knowing that I can access the current edition anytime, anyplace I can get access to the web. Safari is currently offering an introductory price on unlimited bookshelf accounts. It was a no-brainer for me.

Did you find that (Second Scrimshaw Connection) book? I am looking for the same book. Reason: I have some work by Rita Watters that I understand is shown in that book. Thanks
