New AADL library catalog is online, and it's great
The new Ann Arbor District Library catalog is online, and it's looking great.
There's a very handy and interesting weblog right in as part of the catalog, and you can make comments on and link to any books and materials that the libraries recommend. There are RSS feeds scattered throughout, and promised more to come. You can even get an RSS feed of the books you have on reserve to find out where you are in line for them. (neat).
Searching for materials in the catalog is a lot cleaner and nicer, and it's easy to see what copies the library has and where you are in line for books that are popular. Your account page lets you very conveniently renew all your outstanding books with a single click.
Several library staff and patrons are active in the comments area of the site as things get debugged, and it's starting to feel like a library community and not just a vending machine for books. That's a big plus.
Thanks! Knowing that there are appreciative library users out there is what motivates us to do these projects.
