International Children's Digital Library
As noted by Tori Orr:
We are a library that provides free access to children's books from around the world. By ensuring access to books from many cultures and in diverse languages, we foster a love of reading, a readiness to learn, and a response to the challenges of world illiteracy.
Their target is 10,000 materials in 100 languges; the project is a good ways there. There are a lot of beautiful picture books in the collection worthwhile just to browse through for their illustrations even if you don't read the language. Check it out!
(this should go into my "children's libraries" category)
The collection covers many languages and has many special and intersting items.
The biggest challenge in using the collection is displaying the text of the books. This can be done with a little effort by playing around with the page imaging interface.
Still, the imaging interface does a good job and displays the pages in some neat ways. Another strength of the Web site is that the overall interface (in addition to the books) is multilingual.
This international children's library is a welcome addition to children's Web resources.
I work as an international languages librarian in a public library. This is the best Website of this type that I have seen.

With the recent posts on arranging books by color, I thought I'd point out the "Simple Search" function for this site that allows searching by cover color too. The creators who developed this functionality really did a magnificent job when it came to their search tool and it is one of my favorite things about this project.
