When the net started, there was no web. If you wanted everyone to have a copy of something you wrote always close at hand, you set up a repeated job to post it out regularly, with whatever minor changes accumulated between those times marked carefully with change bars.
Repetition is the very soul of the net. Seasons come and seasons go, and last year's carefully edited notes on where to get election results works really well as a base for this year's post of the same kind. This week's regular Friday feature or inscrutable Sunday comic are things that you expect to see, even if you don't always understand them. This month's introduction to what this blog is all about might repeat 80% of what last month's post did, but over time the message changes a little bit and gets better.
And so it's Tuesday, and I'm writing about repetition. I'm repeating myself, because I've written about repetition before, and I'm already planning to write about repetition next week on Tuesday. In fact, I've already started writing that piece, and already in it I'm quoting from this week's post which I will have written the week before. If you say something enough times you get good at it.
Say again?
