I'm writing a FOIA Friday series for AnnArbor.com. Sometimes I run into things that aren't really ready to be part of a story written in the traditional newspaper narrative style, and sometimes there are interesting FOIA issues far away from Ann Arbor.
This blog will capture both of those sets of things, and at some point will be part of the things that feed back to the rest of the writing.
The weblog is organized, as best I can, along two sets of categories. There is a category for each agency mentioned in a story, each set of state or federal laws that are relevant to those stories, and any major themes of policy that apply. The other set of categories is chronological.
Some sources for this material includes the FOIAchat discussion on Twitter; The FOIA Blog by Scott Hodes; The Art of Access by David Cuillier and Charles Davis; the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas, for Texas coverage; the Virginia Coalition for Open Government, for Virginia coverage; Bruce Vielmetti's Proof and Hearsay from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel for Wisconsin coverage; and Google News.
I know that this is not a comprehensive effort, in the sense that I am likely to write about something once and then not find the followup story until well after the fact. The work is however ongoing.
